I love furniture with a good story, and boy is this a good story!
This chair has been in the family for....well, over a century. It belonged to her great grandparents in the 1880s. Here is a photo from 1885 - you can just see the chair at the right.
And here is a photo of her grandfather in 1915!
The woodworking shop repaired and refinished the frame so that it could be reupholstered. How many times it has been redone, I don't know. Each time the chair took on slightly different shape over the original stuffing.
I was able to replace all the old springs, cotton, and horsehair and
other foundation materials to bring back the comfort and style.
